I love coffee! Especially when it's ice cold and with milk!

First day of work

It's my first day of work! I was both excited and scared in the morning.

I had to repost at 12.40 am today. Seems like the working time is 1 to 9pm instead of 3 to 11pm. Phew! Luckily... I was so worried that I would have to take cab home if I missed the last train.

When we first reached the hotel, we were given our locker key and name tag. The name tag is so cool! I hope we get to keep it even after we leave.

In the female locker room, there were showering rooms, washrooms and lockers. And a lot of girls just changed at the locker area. It was nice though, cos it felt more homely. Zhang Lan and I changed in the washrooms. Shy la, not used to changing in front of other people.

After changing, we went to the pastry kitchen and were introduced to the chefs.

They're all very nice people but in the beginning, it was quite awkward because we haven't really warmed up to each another yet.

Our first job was to make gingerbread men! So fun right? Haha.

The dough was already made. We just had to take it out from the chiller room which was really cold and nice. Then we had to roll the dough using the machine. After that, use the cutter to cut out the shape of the gingerbread men. Bake it in the oven, then it's done!

I didn't think they would let us make food on our first day. I thought we would just stand one side, and help the chef take the butter, sugar or whatever he needs. But I was really excited because the gingerbread men we made were actually taken out for customers to eat! Haha. So happy.

I also made gingerbread coin. It's almost the same as the gingerbreadmen, just that it's a circle and with 3 almonds positioned in the "mercedes" shape.

Then we also grated the lemon peel and squeezed some icing to stick the "buttons" on the gingerbreadmen. Really fun!

And the people were realy nice too! They kept telling us that if we were tired, we could always go to the cafeteria to take a break. There was a lot of teasing among the guys too. It was so nice!

And one guy said that the best thing about working in the kitchen is that you get to eat whatever you want!

It's true! We ate gingerbreadmen, cookies, chocolates, scones and something with jelly and strawberries. It was just heavenly!

Most of the people working in the kitchen are guys. Wonder why most chefs are guys, but there are more housewifes than househusbands. Wonder which gender is better at cooking. Haha.

One guy even said that Zhang Lan and I made gingerbread tortises instead of gingerbread men! Because when we had to put the cut out gingerbreadmen on the baking tray, they somehow went out of shape. Some were taller, fatter or just had an arm shorter than the other! Haha.

For dinner, we had some noodles, fish and vegetables. The food there for the staff was free. How nice! And whenever you want, you can just go to the cafeteria to take a break. It just makes everything seem so homely!

I really love working at Conrad hotel. The people are so nice! The food is nice! And the job itself is nice!

Really makes me want to work as a chef in future! It seems like such a nice job!

The only setback is the aching legs. I stood all day, from 1 to 9pm. A whole 8 hours! This is even worse than swimming training.

But at the end of the day, it's all worth it. It's so enjoyable working there that I was so happy and smiling all the way home on the MRT.

What a wonderful way to spend my holiday!
