Interview

I had the interview for the SMU advanced placement management for accountancy course today. I really don't know how I did. I was confident (I think), but there were some answers that weren't what the interviewers were looking for.

The interview...

Me: Good afternoon.

Interviewer: You must be really nervous huh? It's still morning. *Time: 11.20*

Me: Huh? I thought afternoon is after 11.

Interviewer:...

Ahh!! I said something wrong even before he asked a question. What else can go wrong?

Interviewers: What do you want to be in the future?

Me: I don't know... Maybe set up my own business selling clothes or food or something like that.

Mistake! How could I say I don't know, especially when it's the answer to the first question. Ahhh... I really don't know what I want to be when I grow up what... (fine, I'm grown up already. Haha.)

Q: Why do you want to take this course?

A: I'm interested in accounting (although I still don't know what the heck is it. My Dad told me an accountant has good prospects so I want to earn more money lor...) and this course will give me an insight into what course I want to take later in university.

*Interviewers seem doubtful that I'm interested in the course*

Me: I will definitely take the course seriously because... blah blah blah. Some boring stuff about I'll try my best, etc.

*They seem satisfied*

Interviewers: Are you taking S papers?

Me: Yes. Econs and Maths.

Interviewers: Will you have time for the course then?

Me: Yes. I will... blah blah blah... make time for it...

Interviewers: What ccas do you have?

Me: Horticulture and swimming. *more stuff about how I will try to make time for the course*...

Interviewers: Do you read newspapers?

Me: Yes *smiles*

No! I haven't read the newspapers for like don't know how long. Since the promos I think. But yes is the "correct" answer so I bo bian...

Interviewers: What section do you read?

Me: Life!. Er... and Home. I also try to read the world section, although it's boring, because I know it's important to be well informed. *Smiles nicely again*

Ok, I really really don't read the newspapers. Even when I do, it's only the Life! section of the Sunday Times. I only said Home because they seemed to stare blankly at me when I stopped at Life.

And I made another mistake. I was supposed to sound like some interllectual freak who would enjoy reading the world news and I just said it was boring! *No offence* Another mistake. Oh man... This interview is going down hill...

Interviewer: Can you tell me about an article in the Home section you read recently?

*Clearly, he doubts the fact that I read newspapers*

Fine! He's right, I don't read.

But luckily, I'm smart! I knew they would ask about newspaper stuff today so I watched the news last night then I told them about the racist blogger thingy. Haha. Lucky, lucky me!

*They seem convinced that I read* Haha!

Interviewer: Ok, that's all. *phew* Do you have any questions for us about the course or about SMU?

Me: *trying to show I was interested in the course so I die die must ask something. Don't want to say "no" then just walk out.*

Me: Erm, when will the course be held?

Stupid question! I think I really sound like I was trying to ask for the sake of asking.

Interviewer: (answer...)

Me: Mmm, and is it only on Saturdays?

Interviewer: Of course not. You have to put in effort to do your group projects and do you homework. *seems irritated*

Another stupid question! It's like telling them once again that I don't have enough time.

Interviewer: (answer...) Is that all?

Me: Yes. (I better get out of there asap before I say something stupid again.)

I think they were mainly concerned about my time management. Seems like I don't have enough time to attend the course. But after the interview, I didn't bother any more. It was already over. Worry also no use.

2 Comments:

Haha!! That was really funny. It could have been worse though.. maybe you could have had your nose hair sticking out or something.

One thing i realised about accountancy.. it's fun learning it, but the fun ends when you start working. Just ask any accountant and they'll agree!
wow!! u managed to get an interview @o@ for the advance placment. i think my friend signed up for it and din get it!

haha, the reason u want to go into accounting is the same as mine. haha. but i think it is very tedious. haha seen my aunt done her work b4.
