Mentoring programme
I signed up for the mentoring programme recently. Because Kimberly wanted to take part but didn't know anyone there so she asked me.
Since I have like 2+ hours free before horti on fridays, why not?
So today, we went for the briefing. It was about how to teach the kids.
We would be teaching them how to read.
The students were primary 3 and 4, from Ngee Ann Pirmary. But some of them may have the reading ability of only primary 1s.
The teacher said that there were a few students with learning disabilities but couldn't afford to go to special schools so they had trouble coping with the normal syllabus.
Also, we have to be nice to the students if not they may be mean back to you even though they are the ones in the wrong in the first place.
She also said that some students may make up their own words. For example: NOB. No such word right? But they'll keep using it like there is really such a word and you either ignore them or keep telling them one hundred, one thousand times that there is no such word.
Quite cute actually.
I'm still afraid that I may not do a good job. Kim too. And that we may get the "mean" students. Scully we kena bullied instead... Haha...
We can also play games with the kids if they get bored of reading books. So me and Kim and Ami stayed back for a while to try the games. They were really easy. Gave us quite a sense of achivement cos we could finish the game so, so quickly. Whahaha...
There are students from TPJC who came for the programme too. But we were in separate rooms. And they got to meet their tutees today! We didn't, don't know why...
There were a few TP guys with their tutees in the canteen. And the kids waved to us when we walked past. I waved back. At first they called us xiao jie (don't know why... so weird!). Then later it became Auntie!!! Wha!!! They so cheeky.
Anyway, I can't wait to see my tutee. They'll be so cute!!!
