Does this uniform make me look fat?
I tell you, the Conrad pastry kitchen one sure does!
Virginia called me at about 3pm today to say that she needed an urgent part-timer to work in the pastry ktichen. So I agreed to take on the job since I needed a "break" from studying anyway. It was from 6pm to 11pm. I was studying in the VJ library then.
The only thing that was holding me back was that I wouldn't be able to watch gong ye man wang fei (channel U, 7pm). It's such a nice, nice, nice, nice, nice show!!! And today's episode is very exciting! I've never been so in love with any tv show before. I look forward to the show every single day! It's my first Korean drama by the way, and I'm absolutely hooked! When I decided to take the job, I could feel my heart ache when I couldn't watch the show...
Oh well, I asked Kimberly to tell me the story tomorrow. Though it won't be the same, and no eye candy too. Haiz... But anyway, today's work was quite interesting. You'll find out for youself as I'm going to tell you about it now.
I met Ah Hau in the canteen during dinner. We talked a bit, and he found out that he got me and Zhang Lan mixed up. All those smses that we sent each other, he thought they were from Zhang Lan. I was really shocked. Well, at least now he knows.
While we were eating, another guy from the pastry kitchen joined us. I haven't seen him before. He's Edwin. Cute guy. Haha...
A lot of people in the pastry kitchen have changed. The only people that I know who are still working there are Chef Rosli, Chef Steven, Ah Ming, Virginia, Kuok I and Ah Hau. Too bad Kuok I worked the morning shift today. Didn't get to see him. And when Chef Steven saw me, he asked me to go work for them after A's! Haha... I'm very happy though I haven't promised anything yet.
My first job was to dip some long cookies in chocolate. Then, before I finished, I was asked to go up to Oscar's with Mei Yi (I think that's her name). I was in charge of the deserts bar, which included the ice cream counter, crepe and waffle section. All I had to do was to make crepes, waffles and scoop ice cream. Pretty easy.
Mei Yi taught me some stuff, then she went down. I was left there with no one I knew! Then, I felt very awkward, and I kept thinking that things would have been much better if I had just stayed home and watched tv.
Luckily, there was another chef that was quite friendly. I don't know his name. Let's call him X for now. He would just come over and talk a little, then talk to the other chef in charge of the seafood and stuff.
I talked with X quite a bit, and it made me feel much, much better, and less awkward. It's like everything seems so foreign to me, then there's someone to take care of me. Feels nice.
After talking a while, X asked me for my phone number! Before that, he was talking about playing badminton, and asked me if I played. So after he asked for my number, I asked "for what?". I forgot his reply, I think it had something to do with badminton. But the way he asked for my number was very subtle. I don't really know how to describe it, but it just seemed to flow with our conversation very well.
I wrote it in his notebook. And ya, I gave my real number. Actually, I don't know what to expect. You know what it means when a guy asks for your number right? Then I always don't know what to do in such situations, so I usually do as I'm told. While I was writing my number, thoughts of "accidentally" writing the wrong number kept flashing through my mind.
The rest of the evening was rather routine. I would stand at the counter with mostly nothing to do (there were so few customers since it was a Thursday evening), X would come talk once in a while, I would talk to the seafood chef a little, then make a few crepes and waffles here and there, and scoop some ice cream. That's about it. My crepe making skills got much better after one of the head chef came over and taught me how to do it. And once in a while, one of the waiter would come over and make fun of me and X. I think everyone could tell that he was getting close. I was rather embarrassed actually. I never meant for it to be like that.
At the end of the day, Mei Yi came up to keep all the stuff with me. Almost all the food displayed on the buffet table was thrown away! So wasteful! And they were all very nice food indeed. So next time when you go for a buffet, just eat your fill. Don't feel paiseh to take more. Cos we would rather let you eat it than throw it away.
After my work was done, I said bye to the pastry kitchen people and went to sign out at security. I worked for 6pm to 11pm, for 5 hours and got $30 of pay. :)
Miraculously, after I signed out at security, X was there too. I didn't see him before I signed out, then after a few minutes, he was right behind me, all ready to go. What a coincidence! I was a little shocked to see him there.
We walked to the MRT together and talked along the way. Honestly, I'm a very boring person. If you asked me a question, I would just give a simple answer and stop right there (unless I'm with very good friends). Then there would be nothing else to talk about. It was the same with X. Just that he had lots of stuff to talk about. It was really very nice talking to him indeed. I didn't have to think much of stuff to say to fill in the silent gaps in between. He would keep asking questions about me, but not in a interrogating kind of way. Amazing how he does it.
Along the way, he asked if I had a boyfriend. I said no. We talked a little more. Then when it was time to go our separate ways at the MRT station, he asked if he could call me after the exams. I said ok. I'm surprised I did. I didn't know what else to say, he was so nice. He stretched out his hand for a handshake and I shook it.
I tell you, he's a super nice guy. A really average guy that feels so comfortable to be with.
But there's something I'm unsure of. We barely got to know each other when he asked for my number. I think that when strangers know so little about each other, just like when we first met, it's probably too early to even have a little fondness for another person right? Like the only thing that you can judge me by is my looks since you don't even know my character yet. The thing is, I don't have looks! Coincidentally, I lost my comb today, and my hair was like anyhow tucked under the hat (the tall chef's hat. cool right?! I mean the hat, not my hair) , and I was having a big pimple on my nose, and back to the topic, the uniform really made me (not just me, it's everybody) look fat.
So what on earth prompted him to ask for my number?
I have no idea.
Maybe I just feel too insecure about myself.
Anyway, the thing is, he's got my number, I don't have his. It's all up to whether he calls or not.
