One in a million

Actually, it's one in twenty-two.

I went for a PSC tea session for provisional scholars today, and I was pleased to find that only 22 provisional scholarships were given out this year, and I'm one of them! Haha... I feel really honoured, and I can't believe that this is happening to me.

I used to think that PSC scholarships were very, very prestigious, that I would never even have the chance to know anyone great enough who got the scholarship. And now it's happening to me.

Not that it's not that great now, just that it seems more real to me.

When I think about it, I still can't believe that all this is happening to me.

Before A's, I never thought of even applying for the scholarship at all. I thought it would be zero chance. I wouldn't be able to get the grades good enough, nor pass the stringent selection interviews.

All thanks to Sally who asked me to accompany her to a PSC tea session. I didn't want to go initially, cos I had no one going with me, and I felt there wasn't a need to (since I had no chance at the scholarship). But I decided to go take a look, and was persuaded to send in my application.

I just took it as a chance to gain experience, even if I didn't make it.

When I got the call to go for the interview, I was excited, and happy. I didn't know anyone else who got called for the interview.

After the panel interview, I remembered going to the toilet to cry. I was disappointed with myself. I didn't know the answers to some of the questions, and some of the interviewers were quite harsh. I wan't optimistic about the results at all, and I took it as experience gained.

Even now, I'm still not sure what they see in me. And I'm not trying to be humble here. Maybe it's because I'm just like that - I don't see me as being good. If someone else had exactly the same results as me, the same CCA records, I'll probably think that person is wonderful. I just can't see myself as being that person.

I guess this kind of thinking helps too. That's why I never think I'm too good, I never stop at what I already have. Because I feel I'm never good enough. Anyway, enough of this already. I should trust myself more, since I already have confirmation that I have what it take to be a PSC scholar.

So when I got the acceptance letter, I was estatic of course! And now here I am, going for tea sessions for provisional scholars.

It all depends on my results now. I heard A's are coming out on Friday. Cos the NS guys have their Friday schedules marked as "Admin", or so I heard.

The PSC officers at the tea session assured me that grades aren't everything. There was a President Scholar who didn't get straight A's, but he became the President Scholar anyway. So I'm not so nervous now.

I can't wait for A's to be released! I dying of anticipation.

Hi all!

I was too busy (and lazy) to blog for so long!

Happy belated Valentine's Day and Xin Nian Kuai Le!

I went out quite a lot with my friends over the past week.

Went to NYDC at Suntec with Wei Qi on friday (9th Feb). My first time eating there. I had the roast chicken spaghetti which I thought was not bad, and we also shared 2 slices of cake. Yum yum! Later, we went to play pool at Marina Square. I won by a bit. Ha!

Saturday, I went kickboxing with Shuwen as usual. That day's exercise was really very, very tough!

As for Sunday, I went to my Aunt's house for early reunion dinner as my family will be spending the actual day at my Dad's side. We played asshole daidi as usual, and it was a lot of fun!

Monday, I went with the other interns to Crystal Jade at Suntec. It's my first time at Chrystal Jade. I'm such a mountain tortise. It was a lot of fun, being our first outing together. I thought the food was nice!

On Tuesday, I went out with Janice. We went to New York New York. My first time too! Haha... I went to many nice restaurants for the first time the whole week! It certainly burnt quite a hole in my pocket, but it was really worth it, considering the fact the last time I met up with all my friends was before I started work.

Something really disastrous happened that day. My handphone ran out of battery at the last minute! Worse still, I don't know Janice's number by heart. (That's how reliant I am on my phone. I don't think I'm the only one.)

We were supposed to meet at City Hall MRT, but we were also thinking of going there earlier to get seats. So in the end, there wasn't a certain place to meet. And with no handphone, I could only hope to meet her along the way.

I walked from the MRT station to NYNY and back, TWICE!, before Janice spotted me. Thank goodness, if not I wouldn't have known what to do.

The main course at NYNY is not bad, quite cheap too. We shared fish & chips ($12.90) and cheese balls. The cheese balls were some kind of appetisers - small harshbrown balls filled with cheese. Not bad, though it was so little, it wasn't worth the $8.90 we paid.

We went shopping at Marina Square, before going to Gelare for half priced waffles. Ha! Super nice, and we were really full by then. I saw Teng Wen there too.

Wednesday, also Valentine's day, I went out with my HOT DATE.

Wei Qi and I went to chocolate factory at Clarke Quay. We shared a chocolate souffle and a slice of chocolate cake. Luckily we went early. If we had reached just 5 minutes later, we would have to wait for seats.

We had little to eat, and just talked, partly about guys. Haha... She was going clubbing with her friends at Zouk so I went home first.

Friday: we had half day off from work! I worked till 3pm and claimed 2.5 hours of OT, and still went home earlier than usual. What a nice day.

Saturday was CNY eve. I went to my Uncle's house for reunion dinner. We played blackjack, and I lost $4. I always lose every single year...

Sunday: first day of CNY. I went to my Grandma's house, then to my Auntie's house. I played mahjong and won 20 bucks. It was all because of the one round where I got all the animals, and a flower (5 tai) and zi mo. Ha! We were playing 20 cents, 40 cents. I won another $10 at blackjack. Super lucky day for me!

Monday: the second day, I went to my Auntie's house again. I won another $15 at mahjong. I am seriously getting more expert at this! All thanks to my qing yi se, I got another 5 tai. Ha! All in all, I won $40 in gambling. Though I must remember that gambling is not good... This is enough to recoup all my loses for the past years. Ha!

It was a great CNY, and today, my family spent the whole day at home watching shen diao xia lu DVD. Shoik! I'm looking forward to going back to work again. Wei Qi's going for interview tomorrow cos we're hiring 2 more interns. Hope she gets the job!

*PS: I wanna tell everyone some superb news! I've got a PSC SCHOLARSHIP! It's provisional though, means that I have to get my excellent grades for A's in order to confirm that I've gotten it. In case you don't know, PSC scholarships are super prestigious! Woohoo! I'm so happy, though anxious at the same time. I can't wait for A's to be released!

We went to the Maldives today!

From Sentosa, we went to the Maldives. And it was tiring work!

We had to move all our files, stationary, and even computers!

The view from the Maldives was simply breath taking.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the meeting room that we interns use at work.

The one we usually used was called Sentosa.

The new one is called Maldives. Or at least we named it so. It's original name is actually Tekong. So not-nice right?

We had to change rooms cos they wanted to reconfigure the wiring in the previous room.

The new room is spectacular! It's much bigger, the chairs there are posh-er, the tables are nicer, and most importantly, the view is superb!

Our entire building has glass walls (wanna guess what building it is? haha...) and our meeting room is a corner room. So we have great scenery. We have sea view, and I took the seat right next to the window. Dammmnn SHIOK!

I first saw the room when I peered in this morning. But when I went right in and looked at the window, my only reaction was "OH MY GOD!"

Eileen had the exact same reaction too. I don't know how to describe it, but it's like when you look from the outside, you really cannot tell what's the big deal about the scenery. But, once you see it, you cannot believe your eyes. You can't even believe what you're seeing is in Singapore. Looks like some posh resort!

The bad news is, we may have to move back to the old room cos they wanna put the new permanent staff in our nice room. But Julie says she'll see what she can do. I really hope we can have the nice room!

QQ, Sylvia and SJ are together with me in that nice room.

The others are still at the intern bench which is really quite bad cos there's no privacy since it's at the walk way, and they can't talk! Super boring, not to mention there's no awesome sea view.

I love the new room! If I can sit there for the rest of my intership, I'll be happy to go to work everyday.

The good bits of life

I'm getting my life back. Slowly but surely.

It's no longer being eaten up by work.

It used to be wake up, go to work, come back, sleep.

BORING.

Now, it's much better.

I just signed up for kickboxing at Bedok CC with Shuwen. Went for my first class on 3rd Feb, and the second lesson just last Saturday.

I also went rollerblading with Jasmine and Amarjote on Sunday at East Coast. It was so much fun catching up. I completely forgot how to blade and kept falling down. Amarjote had to keep pulling me. I fell down quite seriously when we went down the mild slope. But I don't know why, I always laugh when I fall. Seems kinda fun actually. Ha!

I got the hang of it in the end, and was blading at normal speed. Later, we went to Subway for lunch. Ahh... A good excercise followed by a healthy lunch. I like! :)

I'm meeting up with Wei Qi this friday, and Janice next Tuesday.

Next Monday, I'm going to Crystal Jade for dinner with all my working friends. It's our early CNY "reunion" dinner and to celebrate Friendship Day.

I'm sooo looking forward to it! :)

I did OT today. Seems kinda fun. Pei Shan didn't come today, and I used the computer at her desk. Garren, Dora and Sabrina are such nice people, it was nice sitting with them. Sabrina was going to a hotel after work to check out where she wants to hold her wedding. It's going to be next year, and I'm just glad that I found out. I also don't know why. Haha...

It's nice working OT. It's peaceful in the evening, and much easier to work. Somehow, the mood seems more relaxing too. Like it's less formal.

And I love how the company provides snacks for those working late. Today, there were kaya, tuna and chicken puffs from Delifrance. All expensive stuff. I feel like the company takes really good care of us, so I'm glad to do OT, even though I didn't have to.

Dora was so nice, she got me food when it came. :)

I'm beginning to not dislike my job now (I used to really hate it when I first started). That's really good!

Hope the rest of my days there will continue to get better!

I'm looking forward to Chinese New Year!!!
